  • Kanyakumari Government Medical College (KGMC) was started in the year 2004 with 1200 bedded tertiary care multi-specialty hospital (KGMCH), with round the clock emergency services.
  • The institute is well connected by Air, Rail and Road Transport.
  • The campus is a 100-acre land full of greeneries that harbors medical college, hospital and hostel facilities.
  • KGMC offers services free of cost for economically deprived people of society.
  • Multi-Speciality hospital with PG courses(Broad speciality – MD/MS) and Super-speciality courses (DM/MCH). 
  • Annual intake of 3 DM Neurology/ 2 MCH Neuro-surgery seats through NEET SS Centralized counselling conducted by MCC.
  • It also provides free services and treatment under the Tamil Nadu government’s chief minister’s comprehensive health insurance scheme.

  • Department of Neurology was the first super-specialty department to be started in Kanyakumari Government Medical College in the year 2008.
  • The growth of Neurology as a discipline in KGMC  was fascinating from a limited beginning, the department has grown into a modern multi-disciplinary field.
  • Approximately 30000 Out-patients and 1200 In-patients are served annually.
  • We were able to make a big leap by starting a full-fledged electrophysiology lab, sleep lab, and  plasmapheresis.
  • 3 DM Neurology seats started in academic year 2020-21 
  • The department of neurology is well organized in management of Acute stroke , Headache, epilepsy, neuro infections, immune mediated disorders, movement disorders, Dementia, Muscle disorders, etc…
  • The department takes good pride in its comprehensive 24×7 services like CT- computerized tomography, MRI – magnetic resonance imaging, Pathology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology services.

It is our pride to say that neurology department is the first Super specialty department in Kanyakumari Govt Medical College. We came into existence as a department in 2008.

For the past 18 years, department of neurology has been serving people from all walks of life with exceptional healthcare, serving the people not only from the Kanyakumari district but also across the state.
